IdZ - Infanterist der Zukunft / IdZ - Soldier of the Future
Modelling Guide

1. Introduction

Hi and welcome to the IdZ Modelling Guide

The intention of this guide is to provide you with accurate information
on how to create a realistic and up-to-date IdZ soldier of the German
Bundeswehr.

The guide has been divided into different chapters for better comfort and
survey.

2. Helpful Links

As the german military is currently upgrading the soldiers, pictures are rare
and most likely show old and new equipment mixed together.
You should only use pictures provided within this tutorial.

However, here is a 3D-Animation of the IdZ-Soldier, could be helpful:
http://www.deutschesheer.de/C1256B6C002D670C/vwContentFrame/N2629A79031DKORDE

If this link is not working, do the following:
Open www.deutschesheer.de in your browser, be sure to use the german language
version of the homepage. Click on "Technik" (bottom-right-corner of the first page).
Then, click on the soldier image on the upper left of the content frame (holding a
weapon with one hand and wears a backpack). After that, click on the "Infanterist der Zukunft"
picture and later on the link named "3D Animation".

3. The Equipment

The German IdZ soldiers are equipped with a number of different pouches,
goggles and other technical stuff like group radios or navpad computers.
Here is a brief description of the equipment and links to the pictures
where they have been marked.

Equipment - Front part of the vest

BiV Brille Lucie / NV Goggles Lucie
The NV Goggles "Lucie" are tightened to the soldiers helmet and can be
fold down.
As Operation Flashpoint is not supporting custom NVGoggles, we have decided
to supply our soldiers with the NVGoggles on the helmet but will remain there.
Therfore, the soldier models will not be equipped with a NVGoggles proxy.

Schutzbrille EPS-21 / EPS-21 protective goggles
The Goggles are - when not worn - fold down to the torso.
As Operation Flashpoint has problems with animated parts on soldier heads
we have decided to have the soldiers equipped with the goggles all the time.
This way, we need to have the glasses proxy removed from the models.
Lenscolour should be black.

Gruppenfunk Bediengerät / Control device for group radio
The control device is attachted to the vest on the front right torso.

Magazintaschen / Ammo Pouches
The ammo pouches of the soldier are placed on the front of the vest.
Each pouch holds 2 mags, so 3 pouches per soldier should be enough (6 Mags, 4 Handgrenades).
It should be about six of them on the model.

Navipad Tasche / Navipad Pouch
The Navipad is a mobile computer like an IPod or stuff like that.
As Operation Flashpoint does not support such kind of equipment,
only the pouch of it has to be modelled.

Camelbak
The camelbak water supply system is inside the soldiers vest.
However the tube (for drinking) is visible on the left shoulder near the
soldiers head.
Pictures show it in a blue color, however currently the tube has been repainted
and is now black.
ATTENTION: not marked on the desc_equip pictures.

Rangabzeichen / Rankbadge
The rankbadge is placed on the chest of the soldier.
It should be textured seperate to allow modification via scripts.

Feldflaschen Tasche / Waterbottle Pouch
Each soldier is equipped with a waterbottle pouch.
It is the biggest pouch on the soldier and also most of the time attachted
to the front of the vest.

Headset
Each soldier is equipped with a small headset for the group radio.

Equipment - Back part of the vest

GPS Empfänger / GPS Device
The GPS device is placed on the right shoulder of the soldier.
It is a small black box.

Daypacks
The Daypacks are the big pouches on the soldiers back.
They are meant to replace backpacks.

Akkupack & Gruppenfunk / Power Supply Unit Pouch & Group radio
The power supply unit and the group radio are placed under the daypacks
on the back of the soldier.
They are small, black/gray boxes.

Last but not least
The pouches can be equipped to the vest as the soldier prefers - there
position may vary from picture to picture.

Soldiers should wear gloves as those included in the current basic pack
as the BIS hands look like Playmobil.
