EDITOR102 ADDON
What you wanted to know about editorupdate102 and were too afraid to ask.
EditorUpdate102 is the most popular add-on out there. It is not a single-object add-on, but rather a collection of nearly 500 objects that already exist within the official bis engine. Trees, bushes, houses. It is not an addon in the normal sense of the word, something that provides new models and candy. It simply allows the mission editor to access models that are already there.
So What?
Basically, we're all confused with the various editor102's out there. (There aren't that many, but they confuse)
The Problem.
Fundamentally, there are two different 'flavours'
Editorupdate adds the new internal models that came with resistance.
For players and authors alike, you select the Editor102 according to your engine version. For players. EditorUPDATE, the resistance version, is backwardly compatible with upgrade. For authors, there are a few wrinkles. Some of the objects in update are not available for mission editing. This has since been fixed in both Mikero's and Barron's versions of this addon, and the causes are detailed below. However, if you just want to get in and use the 'correct' version for authoring or playing, stop reading, grab Barrons or Mikero's version but not Kegety's original and be done with it.
The nitty gritty
In the beginning.....
Sporadic discoveries of how to access many engine models (houses, trees., bushes) culminated in a rapid fire output of several addons, all culminating in Kegetys editorupgrade102. This version mostly inherited (built upon and was compatible with) earlier works.
Kegetys released the first versions of this addon as Objects1 and Objects2 on 14 August 2001.
Gunslinger then created EditorUpgradeONE.pbo the following week which needs objects1 to function.
Gunslinger then modified this file the next week to remove the need for objects1. It is called EditorUprade102.pbo
This version, EditorUpgrade102.pbo, is the famous "gunslinger's editor addon"
It was designed for OFP versions 1.46 and below.
For non resistance players
You sometimes need one or more of the first three files for early missions designed to use them. The reason for this is the mission.sqm itself 'calls' for the addon class name. Even though the models, the objects, are fully contained in the editorgrade a quirk of the engine is that it still needs to access the objects 1 & 2 class names.
For non resistance Mission Authors
Everything required is in gunslinger's editor addon. You do not require any others. You are advised to remove them from your folder.
Enter the Resistance
Kegetys re entered the scene and provided a new Update based on Gunslinger's Upgrade
It is permanently named EditorUpdate.102 to associate it as a replacement to the earlier work. In fact, the internal names of both upgrade and update are in fact update. Earlier non resistance missions are happy with this new pbo.
The current true version of this file (as of March '05) is version 1.11
In theory
It was intended to simply replace the earlier version, fix a few bugs, and add some resistance objects.
in practice
For resistance players, the new update can totally replace the upgrade. (with the attendant issues of objects1 &2 sometimes needed for very early missions but see below for a complete fix to this)
Enter Mission Authors
Kegetys made one, fundamentally flawed decision on his improved version. He 'hid' some of the earlier objects. What this means is, that for players, there's no difference any which way. Hidden objects in the new version (update) are still 'in game'. For authors, they're no longer accessible.
Enter General Barron
Barron's version of this same file UNhides most objects for authors to use. It has no consequence to players which one you use.
Similarly to the current kegetys version, this file too is permanently named EditorUpdate.102, and it's current true version (as of May 2005) is V2.2
In addition, General Barron supplied Hidden object1 and 2 files. These pbo's allow missions that need the early Kegety releases (objects 1& 2 etc) to co-exist with Barron's (or Kegetys) resistance editor, without confusing the mission editor.
Enter Mikero's Editor
This continues on Barron's earlier work. In some small details, Barron's editor has some problems with some of the unhidden objects (they are wrongly 'sided', or already declared). Mikero's editor also adds languages and fixes the map sizes.
For players, Mikero's editor contains objects1 & 2 and editor upgradeONE hidden inside making these additional pbo's no longer necessary. As good as the Barron edition is, Mikero's version will probably be the ultimate, and last, correction to this famous pbo.
